Hi there, please allow me to introduce myself.
I am Cees Moerkerken, born in 1984 in Holland, currently living in a little town called Numansdorp with my girlfriend and daughter.
I received my BSc at The Hague University in 2011 after completing a BI study. As part of my graduation i started as an self employed consultant and focussed on virtualization. I achieved some VCP accreditations, and focussed on the product suite of VMWare.
In 2012 i started a small VMWare vCloud provider, NetVPS, with a companion. After 3 years of limited growth we realized that VMWare vCloud had fallen behind its competitors in terms of features. Additionally the pricing is a mismatch for dynamic, cloud ready workloads.
In 2014 i’ve setup an public OpenStack POC at NetVPS. I soon saw the potential that OpenStack has and decided that this was the way to go, just not for a small company like NetVPS. OpenStack was, and still is, a very complex stack of components that all need to work flawlessly together. On top of that OpenStack is evolving and gaining new features faster than any of the other Cloud projects. At the time getting to know these components inside-out while also operating a production cloud proved too much and we decided to abandon OpenStack at NetVPS.
In 2015 i left the company and started with CloudVPS deploying custom solutions. These solutions were all based on a High Available web cluster using any combination of HAProxy, Keepalive, Varnish, Apache, Ngnix, PHP, Redis, NFS, DRBD, Corrosync/Pacemaker, GluserFS, MariaDB Master/Master or Galera replication and RabbitMQ. After some time all these clusters were tuned and monitored to a degree that incidents were a rarity. All clusters were built with Ansible roles.
Since the last couple of years my focus has moved towards automation and OpenStack. During my work i encounter lots of cool stuff. Whenever i find the time i will try to share my experiences with you here.
